We are delighted to welcome back our 2013 Studio Immersion Project fellows in a two-part exhibition series. On view in our first show is the work of Susan Graham, Beth Gilfilen, jc lenochan, and Dionis Ortiz. It’s been one year since their fellowship at EFA RBPMW, and these artists continue to integrate printmaking strategies into their painting, drawing, sculpture, and performance practices.
While many 2013 SIP Fellows continue to make prints, others bring the strategies of print to their work in outside disciplines. Gilfilen compares the wiping motion of intaglio printing to the new mark-making that has appeared in recent paintings. Similarly, Ortiz finds the quick pace of monoprint lends an electric dynamism to his portraits and landscapes. Through chine collé, Graham uses subtly shaded paper to infuse her work with color. And like Graham, lenochan exploits the weight and surface of paper to beckon the viewer close to his embossed text.
These artists have shared a studio and a summer. They have relied on one another to sponge stones and register paper. We think you'll find that the conversations of the studio have continued on to the gallery walls.
