A Donkey is a Lion. Insecticide, a Message from God.
January 22 - February 19
Opening Reception: Friday, February 13 6 – 8 pm
A donkey is a lion. Insecticide, a message from god. is an exciting curatorial collaboration between two St. Louis-based advocates of the arts: Paul Artspace and PIECRUST Magazine. Both organizations aim to showcase emerging and established artists side-by-side.
Paul Artspace is a St. Louis artist residency founded in 2012 by Michael Behle whose mission is to support artists by providing them time, space, networking and professional contacts. PIECRUST Magazine is a unique, letterpressed art and literary magazine founded in 2010 by Lauren Cardenas that showcases artistic talents in themed issues released twice annually. Together, the two organizations have embarked on a curatorial collaboration that breaks down their typical presentational boundaries. The result creates a show that is both a physical space for the individual works of six artists as well as a metaphorical place in which the work and curation join an engaged community to ponder meaning.
Exhibiting participants include visual artists Lyndon Barrois, Jr., Jamie Kreher, and Peter Pranschke, and poets Jessica Baran, Maggie Nelson, and Brett Underwood. These five artists’ practices, while varying wildly in form, all involve modern mythology. Beyond a mere image-on-wall exhibition, the show will become a philosophical experience as text and image work side-by-side to amplify the meanings of both. Join in the thoughtful discourse with emerging and established artists, poets, and curators when you visit this exhibition!
